My Week in Pictures #4

Friday, January 25, 2013 0 Comments

This week was super busy!  I've done lots and lots of cleaning and getting organized.  And lunch with Devin and Katie.  It's also been cold and snowy!  It hit a lovely 7 degrees.  Ugh.  So, I planned out my deck for the spring and this years road trip.  Because I want it to be warm.  Right now.

See You Soon!

This weekend has been super productive.  My apartment is slowly starting to look like I actually live in it.

My craft room was the main focus of my attention yesterday.  I finally started to get some things hung up and finished up some decorating projects, including a little bookend for my shelf.

I found this little guy on sale at Hobby Lobby quite some time ago, and bought it with the intention of using it as a book end.  It has sat in a box unfinished since then.

I discovered it yesterday while unpacking.  So, after a quick spray with some yellow spray paint, I picked out some cute paper and traced.

Then busted out the Mod Podge.

And that's it!

Ta da!  One cute bookend to brighten up my space.  Love it!

Etsy Roundup: Mellow Yellow

Wednesday, January 16, 2013 0 Comments
I've been on the hunt for some super unique things to spruce up my new place.  I have several bright colors strode about my apartment, but yellow makes an appearance in almost every room.  The sunny color makes me so happy!

Here are some of the cheerful yellow goodies I came across in my etsy search:

Ikea Trip

Monday, January 14, 2013 1 Comments
Saturday was an exciting day...

Rachel, Devin, and I hit the highway for the 3 and a half hour drive to our nearest Ikea.

Yes, almost four hours away.  I had never been to an Ikea before my mom and I made the trek last year.  I'm pretty sure it's the greatest place on earth.

I Love Ikea!!

This was Devin's first visit.  We spent about 4 hours there, buying enough to pack Rachel's little Subaru full.  Could have spent more, but we still had another stop on the way home...

The Container Store!!!  I had never been to one, and it was exciting.  I wanted everything!

Aren't they cute???

After our long day of home organization shopping, we hit my other favorite place on earth: The Cheesecake Factory!

We don't have one anywhere near home, either.  It was fantastic.  And we brought home 6 piece of cheesecake.

Awesome Day!!!  Can't wait to show you all the fun things I bought!

See You Soon!

Poppin: Work Happy!

Wednesday, January 09, 2013 0 Comments
Right before Christmas, Jen over at I Heart Organizing posted a little coupon for a site I had never heard of called Poppin.  It looked very colorful and happy, so I gave the link a click and decided to check it out.

The coupon was for a pack of free pens with a $10 purchase, plus free shipping!  After a quick browse through the site, I found lots of lime green goodies for my office space and settled on a few small ones to give it a try.

A few days later, a super cute orange box showed up at my door:

The packaging immediately made me smile.  I love clever things.  Even the air pillows were cute!

I love the little "Don't use as a pillow" icon.

My goodies!  I've wanted cable drops for a while, so I snagged up a few.  I also got my box of lime green pens and a cute little bits and bobs tray!

And my favorite part: The Packing List!

It's a Paper Airplane!  Is that not awesome?

I was very impressed by the attention to detail they used.  This is not a sponsored post, I was just really excited about all the cuteness involved in putting together my package!  I even got a personalized thank you note in the mail a few days later!

Basket Weaving

Monday, January 07, 2013 2 Comments
Several weeks ago, my friends and I were invited (or maybe I invited us...) to our friend Trista's house for a very special class.

Trista weaves baskets.  And it's awesome.

And she very graciously and patiently taught us how to make them!

She had everything laid out on her table for us when we arrived and even drove down to give us a lift to the top of the mountain her house is on (Not kidding.  It's a mountain.)  After munching on some tasty pizza, we played with her super cute dogs and got started.

I brought a small basket with me as a size reference.  I really wanted to learn how to make a small basket to give gifts in for the holidays, so I brought one I had bought for that purpose.

Trista did some math based on the basket I had brought with me, and then we started measuring out and cutting our reed to sizes she gave us.

After a quick soak in water, she taught us how to find the smooth side of our reed pieces...

....and then showed us how to grid off the bottom of our baskets.

Then we upset our spokes and pinned together our sides for another quick soak.

Then the fun part!  Weaving the sides!

Trista let us pick from her stash of dyed reed to add to our baskets.  Holley went the Christmas route, Devin picked just green, and I was super excited over the turquoise.

Once we reached the top, we started lashing (basket weaving terms are very violent...)

Basket Weaving is Serious Business

And then we were done!

I love how differently all of our baskets turned out even though we used the same starting measurements!  I had wanted mine rectangular, so Trista taught me how to crease my sides, while Holley and Devin left theirs rounded.

It was so much easier then I had ever expected!  I was so excited to make more that I asked Trista for the place where she buys her reed and bought a bunch!  They also have little kits and things to get started if you don't have someone awesome like Trista lurking around.

It was too much fun!  Thanks so much, Trista!

See you soon!

New Years Resolutions

Wednesday, January 02, 2013 0 Comments
Happy 2013!

Ah, the new year.  A fresh start...and a time to plan goals that typically don't happen.

But that still doesn't mean you shouldn't try. ^_~

I have big plans for 2013:

1) Eat Breakfast Everyday

This is something I have never really done, and that's so bad!  Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and I plan on indulging in it everyday this year, as I should.

2) Blog at least 3 Times a Week

Right now I'm thinking Monday-Wednesday-Friday.  I'd like to get into a 5 day a week posting schedule, but we'll start small.

3) 52 Week Project

My 52 week project is something I've wanted to do for a long time: My Life in Pictures.  I originally wanted to do a 365 project, but that's probably a bit too ambitious. Maybe next year. But this year, my Friday posts will be "My Week in Pictures."  I'm hoping this encourages me to do more interesting things and practice taking great pictures. Should be fun!

I think that's a reachable collection of goals for the year.

What are your New Years Resolutions?  Anyone have anything fun?
