Nick and my anniversary is the day before Valentine's Day, so we always have a double holiday to worry about. Usually, we celebrate them together by going on a mini trip somewhere. Or a big trip to Disney World. You know, whatever we're feeling at the time.
This year though I was looking for something different to do a little closer to home, and boy, did my search bring up some interesting results!
So I present to you my list of unusual things to do for Valentine's Day. Most of these are in the Kentucky-Ohio-West Virginia area, but I'm sure there are some interesting things to do in your area if you look hard enough!
Take a Tour of a Chocolate Factory
One of my favorite plans that I found by far was touring the Old Kentucky Chocolate Factory and sampling some yummy chocolate. They do tours Monday thru Thursday at 10:00am by appointment, and it sounds like a super fun and inexpensive way to enjoy Valentine's Day.

Have Dinner and Spend the Night in a Castle

Also here in Kentucky is a very unusual site: an actual castle. This particular castle is also a pretty amazing hotel, complete with fancy restaurant, and they're doing a pretty amazing Valentine's Day Bash.
A four course dinner, champagne, chocolates, and rooftop s'mores in a castle. Then, if you're lucky enough, snag a room to spend the night and feel even more like royalty. Ticket's are pretty pricy ($300 per couple), but I can't think of a more romantic place to spend Valentine's Day!

Take a Dinner Cruise in Cincinnati
BB Riverboats in Cincinnati Ohio is a company that offers cruises up the Ohio River, and their doing Valentine's Day dinner cruises for a few nights during the Valentine's week. For $60 per adult, you can have a very yummy sounding dinner while enjoying the Cincinnati Skyline. They even offer souvenir photos to remember your romantic night!

Have Dinner at a Zoo
Also in Cincinnati is this fun dinner idea: Dinner at the Cincinnati Zoo. This zoo is one of my favorites, and not just because it's the home of Fiona the Hippo. For $175 per couple, you can enjoy some special zoo events like learning about "The Wild Side of Love" and enjoy a dinner with a champagne toast that evening. There's even wine and an open bar if that's what you fancy.

We don't have any of this fun stuff close to our little small town but my dream is to one day be able to visit a castle. Also the chocolate factory sounds like an AMAZING idea.
ReplyDeleteHoly cow I think I will skip the penitentiary. That castle experience sounds pretty fun!
ReplyDeleteAll of these options are amazing! Me & my partner usually stay at home on valentines (we live in vegas) because it's so crowded! But now I'll have to check out this castle! So cool.
